 Company Profile

Summerset Colonial Hotel & Villas, aptly briefed as “Summerset” with an eco-themed environment is the first operating 4-star deluxe resort facility at “Summerset at Rompin” – an integrated resort, leisure, recreation, adventure park and holiday home development.

Located near Kuala Rompin, on the southern tip of Pahang, Summerset started operations in November 2000. The resort is the latest holiday destination on the east coast of Malaysia. Summerset is positioned and conceptualized to provide an array of fun adventure within nature, in luxury comforts.

Summerset is situated at the southeastern coast of the district of Kuala Rompin, Pahang around the coordinates of N2 55’, E103 26’. The property sprawling over 834 acres and stretching along 5 kilometers of prime beachfront land facing the South China Sea is about 15 minutes by the coastal road north from Kuala Rompin and is beside the Menchali forest reserve, which have a 237 acres of virgin jungle reserve. The Menchali Forest Reserve is the best remaining representation of heath forest in the Peninsular. Summerset shares the same features of the Menchali F.R., with some pristine areas and are well represented with the plant species found locally. The lowland tropical podsols (well drained sandy mixed with humus), which the forests grow on them, are rare in Peninsular Malaysia but common in South America and East Malaysia. Consequently tree species, which, are specialized for these conditions, are also rare.

The forest in Summerset is unusual, unique and not found anywhere else in the peninsular today. The forest is different from the normal typical lowland forest. Having developed on a succession of old storm beaches formed by the monsoon waves and raised a few meters above sea level with intervening swampy depression parallel to the coastline. The forest is described to be similar to the kerangas forest of East Malaysia and was given the name ‘heath forest’ by the old foresters.

Much care has been taken to ensure minimal disruption of the surrounding flora, fauna and marine life. Nature preservation practices and conservation program is being carried out with
the assistance of the Malaysia Nature Society and the Department of Fisheries.

The resort offers 269 elegantly rooms/suites spread over on the north and south wing of the hotel, flanking the south side of the hotel is 51 two-bedroom villas, all inspired by the classical line of British Colonial architecture, presenting an alluring combination of nature and the lingering romance of history. The key attraction of Summerset is the blending of its vast natural resources to a large variety of recreational and adventure activities to guests of all ages. The resort is also ideal for corporate outings & retreat, teambuilding and outdoor training programs. The hotel offers jobs and training opportunity to locals, it has staff strength of 150 workers.

The government’s policy in encouraging eco-tourism has given Summerset the boost to unflaggingly promote nature conservation. Whilst maintaining its business interest, Summerset simultaneously takes the role in playing guardian to preserve its environment as nature intended
